The future of luck and the work ethic

The poor believe in luck. If you make it you are lucky. Luck has nothing to do with hard work, will power, optimism. Luck in fact thrives in an atmosphere of fatalism, which says, no matter what I do things never change - unless I get lucky. This kind of fatalism creates customers for lotteries and raffle tickets. Instead of the old ethic of work and save to get ahead, we now say, the system is rigged against me, and only a stroke of luck will save me. Sadly, this mood is growing.
