The Mounting Crisis of Business Civilization

Erik, bingo. You clearly identify the tension between academic values and financial values. We see this tension replayed in healthcare. What is the purpose of healthcare, to make money or to cure the sick? Robert Heilbroner wrote a fabulous study of The Future of Business Civilization in 1974. In it he predicted, as an "historian of the future" that society cannot survive, last if it reduces everything and everybody to money. We in fact are living his prediction right now; we can see the damage that is doing. We are moving toward a time when people will overthrow money as their god and recover other values that we need to sustain healthy lives.
