The Future and Leaves

LEADERSHIP AND LEAVES
Yes, as John Naisbitt, Futurist, points out in his Mind Sets, timing is important for leaderships. He puts it this way. If you are the tour guide, you cannot get so far ahead of your tour group that they do not know where you are. This applies to timing, too, of technological applications. In fact, earlier this month, this writer had a SBDC (Small Business Development Center) director demolish a technology-based business plan because the tour group is not yet ready for what the tour leader sees. I thank him for preventing me from wasting precious time, money, energy. Timing counts. Think of the leaf. It cannot tell the tree when it wants to fall to the ground. It falls at the right time. Even so, leaders must be patient to wait for the context to let their values, vision, plans, insights emerge so others can relate and follow them. The leaf teaching comes from Chinese Taoism.
