Futurist Presents atState Convention of the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin
Futurist Paul Rux, Ph.D. (Wisconsin-Madison) was an invited, featured speaker at the annual state convention of the Libertarian Party ofWisconsin at the Olympia Resort Convention Center in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, April 13, 2013. In his one-hour program ,Dr. Rux explained how Libertarian Party members could apply core concepts and techniques from the new field of Future Studies (also known as Strategic Foresightand Trend Forecasting) to public policy and politics. Forinstance, he explored with his audience how current trends in America like thegrowing public distaste for “fakes, phonies, and frauds” could lead to “institutional failure,” the loss of publictrust in our present two-party system. If prepared for such a future failure, a third party, like theLibertarians, could exploit this growing disgust. Ruxstressed Futurists do not predict the future. Instead, they assess the possible and probable future outcomes of trends today unless we take action now to shape their likely impacts on us. Dr. Rux has designed and teaches two courses on trend forecasting for online doctoral students at Jones InternationalUniversity. He is an active member ofthe World Future Society and has presented at its annual conventions andpublished in its journal, The Futurist. Dr. Rux lives in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin.
