Years ago, when your humble servant here was eighteen years of age, his grandma asked him "Why do you want to go to the university (Wisconsin-Madison)?" In reply, I answered, "I want to be a professor." You see, dreams come true. I have not missed myself, my dream; you, my RES704 students in the summer of 2013 have provided a beautiful capstone to this journey. This is exactly the kind of course, students, subject matter that this writer dreamed of over the years. Well, thanks to you, he has "made port," reached his dream that he shared with his grandma. As a professor, there is no higher to go than you. You are the summit, the top, peak; I want you to know how thankful I am for you. You are my dreams come true. Dr. Rux

Where is your "puck" going?
World-class hockey players skate toward where the puck will be (the future) - not where it is (today). They are "Futurists."

Think science fiction.
Future Studies work like Science Fiction. Both, unlike "Fantasy," start with facts. Both "Imagineer" future scenarios from the facts. H.G. Wells is a great example of an early "Futurist." His "War of the Worlds" still sells tickets.
Avoid "rearview" mirrors.
Winning race drivers focus on the road ahead. They are "Futurists."
Catch the next "wind."
Master sailors know how to catch the next "wind." Futurists do too.
