Nix the Techno Fix

Nix the Techno-Fix
Your observations about our "technology obsessed" society rings true.  Some years ago, this writer spent 2.5 months in Greece.  During his visit, he had a conversation with his hosts.  In it they pointed out how Americans are so focused on technology that they tend to overlook the importance of politics, read, people and culture (values) in human affairs.  My Greek friends, who had studied at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, my alma mater, where I met them, saw how we Americans believe that technologies will create heaven on earth, automatically.  My Greek friends saw this as a trap, for it excluded the very real impact of human decisions and choices on how to allocate resources, including resources for technology.  You could argue that the Greeks are too political in comparison with Americans, but the truth is in the "middle."  We need awareness of both.  Going to extremes gets you into trouble, as Aristotle observed years ago!
