Therese, today, I reflected on push and pull. Librarians allow patrons to pull the knowledge they seek. Teachers on the other hand push knowledge at students. The blend of two is the concept of learning, which Peter F. Drucker defines as "what we do for ourselves." In contrast, he observed, teaching is what others do to us. "Learning," what we discover for ourselves, of course, stays with us longer and deeper than what others push at us. Push/pull is also a basic concept in business. Do we customize, just in time, products, services, or do we mass produce and hope to unload inventories through gimmicks, sales pitches? Yes, the pull, learn, library approach is strong in this writer. Peter F. Drucker, moreover, argued that learning technologies would more and more emphasize the learn, the pull factor, dynamic in the future. Bring it on!
