Ylonda, the Hudson Institute has done a study entitled Workforce 2020. It confirms what you say here. The real challenge for American education is at the elementary level - where literacy, numeracy, work ethic, etc. must take root or all is lost later with endless remediation of defective products. Rework is always costly, and we fix rework at its source "upstream" (elementary) and "downstream" (high school and college). We cannot afford this waste.
