Shaun, the current conference at Davos in Switzerland is a stellar
example of the emerging power of conferences, not publications, to
promote careers. Persons who present at Davos have more prestige and
future options than those who follow the old publish or perish route.
It is now money see, monkey do, as experts scramble to get on the
programs of similar conferences, and, as a result, the conference model
as the gold standard is trickling down. Davos is a picture of the
