Mark, your 7.2. is excellent! As my old Ph.D. advisor taught us, "All things being equal, assuming all applicants have degrees, employers will hire experience. Have you done it before?" I just finished writing the JIU EDU-783 adult education leadership internship, and I am slated to teach it in December 2012. Internships are one way to provide this "hands-on" background for employers. More and more, unemployed persons are using internships to get back into the job market. And persons who may want to change field are using internships to "test the waters" first before taking a plunge. Above all, students are now taking more than one, the trend is toward 3, internships as part of their studies to give them the added advantage of being able to say, "Yes, I have done it."
