A "Little Nock" about the Future of "Edu-ma-cation"

Dr. Sue, I will do my best to act on your wisdom.  Yes, we are watching education turn into a racket.  A.J. Nock said Americans have a special gift.  They know how to turn everything into a racket!

Cardinal Newman foresaw this in 1857 when he wrote The Scope and Nature of University Education.  It was a response to the opening of the London School of Economics, which gave the world's first correspondence courses - by "snail mail," of course.  Newman said exchanging letters could not replace the face-to-face dynamics of Oxford-style learning.  He got it right.

The best advice from Nock for folks like us is to take and apply our creative talents elsewhere, to new opportunities, and let the second-rate sink their Titanics. Gresham's Law is at work.  Bad money drives out good money; good money cannot, alas, drive out bad money.

After Gresham's Law, Nock says the Law of Diminishing Returns kicks into high gear.  The second-rate keep doing the same old stuff over and over, for it is all they know, especially since they have silenced or driven out the first-rate.

I love Albert Jay Nock.  This is one of his "Little Nocks."  Thanks.
