Loss of Future Control

Nadine, yes, we are just entering the Information Age and its contours are still emerging.  At the WFS conference over the weekend, a panelist pointed to how this change, however, is making people more and more feel powerless.  The Industrial Age in effect was linear, mass-production assembly line, predictable.  The Information Age in contrast is Chaotic and Complex, and in it, the individual more and more feels helpless in such an environment.  This is one of the reasons we futurists agreed at this panel that it is important for all persons to acquire their own futuring skills since change is going to be relentless and we cannot depend on the chaotic, complex systems, environments around us, to care for and about us any longer.
