Emerging Trend in Education Toward Essentialism

Terra, your ranking of desired teacher characteristics opens with two powerful aspects of the philosophy of education known as "Essentialism"  One, our business is grounding students in basic skills.  These are academics and social, e.g. a work ethic.  To accomplish this we need discipline, or order, to use your word for discipline.  Education today in the USA rides off in all directions without focus, unless we are dealing with an organization that has a clear understanding of its business, which means it cannot "ride off in all directions at once."  What will drive Essentialism to the forefront is the coming economic decline, collapse in the USA.  We cannot afford wasting time any longer.  We need to get people ready to go to work good and hard.  Anything else will get outsourced to agencies outside education.  You can see the Futurist in your humble servant here, but we do what we can afford.  When we cannot afford it, it stops.  This is a way of saying, hang in and on to your Essentialism.  We need it; you can help to lead it!   Go for it!  Dr. Rux
