Coming Demise of Teamwork

Gary, this is great!  You have "struck gold" here; indications are you intend to "mine" it as your career evolves.  Great!  Yes, as you observe, it is crucial for adult educators to pay attention to trend forecasting in order to anticipate and plan for emerging needs in adult education.  One of the greatest adult educators ever, Jerold Apps, University of Wisconsin - Madison, was just such a person; your humble servant is amazed at some of his foresight in 1994!  Last year, your humble servant here had the chance to meet him in person; I told him how much I admired his foresight!  It is this.  Teamwork is over because people in the workplace more and more move on average every 3-5 years.  He calls it lack of job tenure.  It is true.  Nobody knows today how long he or she is going to have a job, not really.  Wall Street deals can crash a company overnight.  Apps argued that coaching of individual stars, whom we wish to retain, keep, because they add competitive edge, innovation to our operations will replace teamwork.  Yes, this is heretical; it is true in the opinion, too, of this writer.  In fact, he has proposed doing a workshop on the demise of teamwork for the World Future Society.  To date, it has declined the offer.  This does not mean Apps is wrong in his forecast.
