New Emerging Paradigm for Management

As we have discussed earlier in our course, coaching is more and more replacing teamwork as the way to leverage progress, change in organizations.  The key reason is lack of job tenure.  People today on average change jobs every 3-5 years.  Nobody is around long enough to form teams of worth.  So, the new paradigm is to coach, mentor those persons in the group who offer the most creative, competitive edge in order to keep and develop them.  Yes, coordination is needed; it is the coordination of innovative, creative individuals, not cumbersome teams.  Compare the "dance" of basketball with the "snow plow" of football.  Flexible coordination to allow individuals players to score "baskets" as opportunities arise.  This model comes from Prof. Jerry Apps, world-famous adult educator, now retired from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, my alma mater.  I had the great good fortune to meet him twice in person this academic year at conferences!  Dr. Rux
